Energy savings

One of the main benefits of using insulation is energy savings and this is well understood by industry engineers. Removable insulation is a solution for irregular or difficult to access equipment, as it can be custom-made for each piece of equipment and can be adapted to the conditions of temperature, exposure and shape.

Examples of energy savings using removable insulation:

There was an area with 12 uncovered valves, and removable thermal insulation was required to increase safety and achieve savings, but how much does that savings represent?

One of the 6" diameter valves, operating at 600^oF and the energy savings from using removable insulation was shown to be 8,270 BUTs per hour.

The annual savings based on continuous operation 80 percent of the time and that the cost per million BTU is $8.00 is as follows:

Annual energy savings: 8,270 BUT/Hour X 8,760 hours x 0.8 = 58 MMBTU.

Annual economic savings: $8/MMBTU x 58 MMBTU = $464 per 6" diameter valve.

Estimated return on investment:

The approximate cost of removable type thermal insulation for a 6" valve is $200.

In the mentioned area, there are 12 valves, therefore, the annual savings that the insulation would produce is 5,568 USD, if compared to the initial investment of 2,400 USD for the cost of the removable insulation, this results in an annual savings of 3,168 USD the first year and the rest of the years of useful life of the insulation, the savings would be 5,568.00 USD.
